Fancy Colored Diamonds is the term used for Colored Diamonds. Diamonds form naturally in a variety of colors. However, intensely colored Fancy diamonds are quite rare and expensive. Fancy diamonds’ desirability and hence, price comes from the intensity of the color.

These rare colored diamonds are graded in order of intensity from Faint, Very Light, Light, Fancy Light, Fancy, Fancy Intense, Fancy Vivid, Fancy Dark, and Fancy Deep. Other factors in cost and rarity of Fancy Diamonds include of course carat weight, clarity, cut, and shape.

Colored Diamonds are rare and expensive. Of course, the larger the diamond, the more the carat weight, the higher the price. Clarity is basically how clear the diamond is. The presence of inclusions is common in colored diamonds and the color tends to mask this. Thus clarity is not as important in Fancy Diamonds as in Colorless Diamonds. The cut of the diamond helps to set off it’s color and brilliance. The shape of the diamond is also intended to enhance the color of the fancy diamond. Thus, Fancy diamonds are often cut into non-traditional shapes in order to more greatly enhance the appearance of the color.
